1. Tell us how you found your way into photography.

Sarah-

I am a photographer because this is what I feel that I was created for. It is what I know I was put on this planet to do. I believe that each of us has a unique purpose… some just may not be aware of their purpose yet. But we all have one. Me? I was born to create. There are three things that I have always known about myself. Number one: I love people, number two: I love to create and tell stories, and number three: I am a big dreamer; a hopeless romantic who wants to change the world :) .

Photography is the perfect marriage of my strengths, talents and passions; making the camera an obvious means to an end for me. I do not love my camera. Rather, I love the way it allows me to connect with people. I love the freedom it gives me to peek into the intimate and personal places of peoples hearts and the way it opens doors and tears down walls, but most of all, I love the way it makes me feel weightless… as if I am connecting with something much bigger and much greater than myself.

I began shooting at the age of 14 and began shooting professionally at the end of college.

Chris-

I had the privilege of working for a record label as a professional bass player, which had me traveling all over the nation. During my time on the road, photography was a wonderful creative outlet and a way to document my journey’s.  And as I saw Sarah’s passion for photography growing, I found myself falling in love with it even more. Now we work together full time doing photography and have never looked back.

2. How do you classify yourself as a photographer?

We are Lifestyle Photographers. We love to capture the joy/whimsy and heartbeat behind people and life.

3. Describe to us a typical week in your life.

One thing we love about our “jobs” is that EVERY week is a little different! It keeps us on our toes.

Most times we shoot at least 3-4 photo jobs a week. Answer e mails, blogging, editing, culling images, updating the site, meetings with clients and all the while trying to better our business and do things to push us forward.

It is ALL about the hustle. Hard work always pays off.

5. How do you approach a photo shoot?

With an open heart and an open mind. Bringing a good attitude makes a HUGE difference on set or when working with anyone. People drop their guard when they see your passion and excitement flowing out of you.

6. Can you share with us a memorable experience from your career? A special moment, or favorite shoot?

Wow, tough question. We like different shoots for different reasons, and as we grow and explore ourselves as artists it seems like we like our most current work better than the work prior to it.  However, the shoots that are our favorites are the ones where our subjects have complete and total faith in us and trust us 100% with no hesitation.

7. Do you think being from (or working in) Oklahoma has influenced your artistic vision? If so, how?

I’m sure it has. We all are a product of our journey and where we came from. Although I (Sarah) grew up in Chicago.. Chris grew up in Oklahoma and really loved the people and the culture there. I know it had a HUGE impact on the quality of person he is, his humility and how he treats people with a great deal of respect. Chris always ran around in the creative music circles in the Oklahoma scene and I know that helped transform and push him creatively.

8. How have you benefited from being part of a creative community (workplace, classroom, associations, etc.)

It is so important to be linked into a creative community. We believe you are a product of the people you spend the most time with.. therefore, surrounding yourself with fellow creatives that push you to be better is one of the very best things we can do as artists. It is a ‘creative-family” a support system of sorts and we feel like it is vital.

9. What is your vision of the future of the industry?

I see this industry sharing and helping others. I see that the photography industry will inedibly become more saturated just due to the fact that cameras are becoming more easily accessible, but that shouldn’t scare photographers, that should empower us to stand apart from the pack that much more. I truly believe it will push us into an era where we will see some of the most creative and inventive photographs to date.

10. What is the vision of your future?

We have a vision to the change the world with our photographs. We hope to make the world better for having lived out our passion. That is our big vision :)

11. Can you lend some advice to young photographers?

Get out and shoot. Face your fears head on and follow your bliss. If you follow your bliss and dream big good things will ensue.
