Introducing Cody Mulcahy

My name is Cody Mulcahy and I was born and raised in Tulsa, OK.  I’m 26 years of age and have been a photographer for 8 years.  I graduated from Jenks High School in 2002 where I began to study broadcast television.  I began my professional education at Tulsa Community College and then transferred to the University of Oklahoma where I received my B.A. in Film and Video Studies.  Although photography is my forte, I’m sort of a jack of all trades, offering freelance services as a camera operator, video editor, graphic designer, and web developer through my sole proprietorship, Middle Gray Studios http://middlegraystudios.com/.  I currently work as a video editor for Lauer Cinematography and still photographer for DCF Concerts.

This spring we’re full of expectations. We have expectations of our items being sold in a store in downtown OKC, a possible feature in a national magazine (we’ll know in May), possibly doing some artsy fartsy craft shows and so much more. Something’s on the move; something is coming. Things are changing and we can feel it in our spirit just above the surface. It’s there, waiting to explode.

When Samantha Lamb clicks the shutter, you are transported into a realm of idyllic countrysides and farm life. Colorful quilts laid out in the tall green prairie. Harmonicas. Bundles of fresh eggs. Picnics. Worn old books. Jars of honey. Waving wheat. Open sky. It’s a romantic view of rural Oklahoma, stemming from Lamb’s passion for her way of life. There are no distractions of modern living, nor its frenzied pace in her work. Sam Lamb’s images are a sanctuary. Her photography gives us that picnic in the fields, the one we yearn for, if only for a moment.

Adam Wisneski Photography

When Adam Wisneski graduated from Mizzou’s photojournalism program, the newspaper industry was amidst major upheaval as subscribers jumped ship for digital news sources. He moved to Oklahoma first for an internship with the Tulsa World, then after stints interning in Miami and St. Louis, he came back to take a position in the Tulsa World’s web department. In many ways,Wisneski represents the photojournalist of the future. He not only shoot stills and records audio, but Adam is also called upon to shoot editorial video, to edit his and the video of others, and administer the online edition.

Wisneski’s willingness to embrace technological advances and adapt to a changing audience have helped him succeed. But his skills are only a means to an end for Adam. He is wholly dedicated to telling stories. He approaches his work with an uncommon passion and uses new techniques to tell his stories in unique ways.

Ever feel like life is one big revolving door? It’s spinning so fast that you can’t tell where you want to get off, or how to get off. Sometimes I feel like the little kid—so worried that I’m going to get crushed that I just keep spinning ’round and ’round in the same door, never going anywhere. Design can often feel like this whether working from home (i.e., me) or in a corporate office; sometimes it feels like you’ve been spinning for a while and you begin to wonder, ‘Should I have stepped through the door back there?’ This was the very question I wrestled with when I decided to head home and start Green Couch Design with Meg. Justin Voight

Okie Photog Justin Voight is an unusually well-rounded professional photographer. That might be because he didn’t begin in photography. Voight fully intended to make his career in design, studying Graphic Design and art at USAO in Chickasha, OK, graduating with a BFA.  After several years down that path, however, he realized his true passion for photography, and he’s been a full-time pro ever since. Voight brings a designer’s sense for composition, color and mood to his work in weddings, portraiture and fashion, but it’s his passion for his subjects that is most apparent. In building a thriving business with his business partner Reseth Oberg, Voight serves as an example to other photographers trying to balance their art with business saavy. Watch, learn, and enjoy the interview.
